Smart machines and artificial intelligence (AI) are taking off in a big way. Our relationships to technology continue to evolve. Soon machines will be able to learn and adapt to their environments. AI has long been considered the realm of science fiction, but as technology improves, AI becomes a reality. While advanced learning machines may replace low-skill jobs, AIs will be able to work collaboratively with human professionals to solve intensely complex problems. AI stands to become one of the most disruptive forces in the IT world.

Over the past few years, one of the greatest examples of AI has been in the rapid proliferation of autonomous vehicles. With companies like Google, BMW and Uber, all making massive investments in the autonomous vehicle space, we are no longer just watching movies about this, but we are seeing self driving cars on the streets of Silicon Valley.

Beyond just our vehicles, another area where we are seeing significant growth in AI investment is smart customer service and experience. From Siri to Alexa to Google Home, these enchanted objects that can listen to us, learn from us and help us meet our needs have given way to a rapid growth of chatbots that are being used to manage customer service for our brands on the likes of Facebook, Twitter or other social media and digital networks.

As the gap between human adaptability to new information and technology continues to widen from the amount of data being created on a daily basis, AI is going to be paramount to leveraging that data to create more sound businesses and to help people process all of the available information in a meaningful way.

In this video I provide an overview of some of the different ways that AI, cognitive computing and smart machines are finding their way into our everyday lives.
